In 2021, Oak City Labs partnered with a confidential client to develop a stroke therapy rehabilitation app that would allow clinicians to administer electrotherapy treatment to patients directly through customized software.
The biggest technical challenge for the project was interfacing with a Bluetooth device that was under active development. As the project progressed, the client’s needs shifted which caused a fluctuation in the approach to development.
This app was easily the most complex interface that the team had ever built. It took determination and insight to anticipate potential risks and develop software that would prevent those risks from occurring.
Our Oak City Labs development team worked from the ground up to learn about the novel technology required for nerve stimulation therapy. From there, they utilized their existing knowledge of iOS development and wrote designs for the app that would manage complex therapy plans for multiple users.
Through working with the “beta hardware”, including circuit boards and an oscilloscope, the team delivered software that would collect data, control the hardware in real-time, then communicate with the hardware to produce output signals and send commands over a Bluetooth connection.
By the end of the project, the development team had created a reliable solution that was ready to be handed off to the client’s engineering team for completion, testing, and FDA approval.
The team had every confidence that through their custom software development, the clinicians at the company would have the ability to successfully treat their patients with the help of the app.
